PRESCOTT'S SCOPE

With all the medical bills we have had this year it's no big shock that we have reached our deductible and we have a CRAZY and insanely high deductible. Prescott already had an upper GI done and everything looked normal. So after discussing that Prescott is still getting sick and throwing up after eating certain foods, his GI doctor thought it would be smart to finally get his scope done. We had held off on his scope because of his age and the cost of the procedure. But since our deductible was met and Prescott is getting older and it is very clear he is not outgrowing this anytime soon we decided a scope would help get his exact diagnosis.
The scope showed that his esophagus was swollen and right outside of his small intestine. But we had to wait 5 days to get the results. After a very LONG five days his GI doctor called and said the test came back normal for EE but came back abnormal for celiac disease. That was the last thing I wanted it to come back as. At least the other diseases there is a chance he could outgrow them but celiac is for life! I know gluten free things have come a long ways and it is easier than it used to be. But no parent wants their baby to have something that will affect them for life. I don't want him to be "that" kid that has to have special food at football and scout camp. I know other people deal with much harder trials/things and we will manage and learn about celiac and make it as normal as possible for Prescott but it's still our new reality. I just wish I could take it from him and let him live a normal life. So after we found out ironically that weekend was the gluten free expo which we decided to attend. So we are at the gluten free expo and think we are in a safe zone right, wrong!!! We let Prescott have a couple treats and by the third aisle he was screaming at the top of his lungs in pain. Neither Chad or I could get him calmed down and he was getting worse. So we left the expo, which totally sucked because we only got down 3 rows. But before we left I went back and looked at the ingredients to the treats he ate and all four treats contained milk and soy. AWESOME, so it is looking like he is lactose intolerant as well. What kid with celiac disease gets sick at the gluten free expo, MINE! Like always extremely frustrated again I made an appointment and went to his doctor to help me make sense of all of this. The hardest part about Prescott is he doesn't look sick. He is not a small and under nourished child like 99% of kids that have these issues are. I don't know why he isn't and sometimes I think it is a blessing that he is thriving with all his food issues. But then on the other hand if he looked skinny and sick maybe the doctors would take him more serious. But his doctor finally agreed this was not normal and felt we are still missing a piece of his diagnosis. So he was going to get all Prescott's notes and test results make some doctor appointments and help us get to the bottom of all of this. So on December 10th we are taking Prescott to meet with a team of expert doctors at Primary Children's. Hopefully, they can help start to make sense of this kid because I have done all I can for him! But I won't rest until I know what will and won't make my baby boy sick, I mean what mommy would?
